Biography

Arturo Garcia-Costas manages our national and international environment program as well as New York City-focused environmental grantmaking. He came to The Trust from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, where he oversaw the state’s environmental justice grant program and took the lead on climate and energy justice issues for the agency.

 

Before that, Arturo ran a global funding initiative at the United Nations Development Program focused on the implementation of the Earth Summit treaties. He has also worked in the Manhattan office of Congressman Jerrold Nadler, for a Senate-confirmed, presidential appointee at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and with the Natural Resources Defense Council in Washington, D.C.  He currently serves on the boards of the National Environmental Education Foundation and Friends of the Earth – U.S., where he chairs the affiliated Friends of the Earth Action.

 

Arturo has an undergraduate degree from the City University of New York in international affairs and theater, an M.S. in urban policy and leadership from Hunter College, and a J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he focused on international and environmental law.
