NEW YORK (January 14, 2025) – The New York Community Trust, New York’s largest community foundation, today announced Emily Karol as its new development director for Westchester.
Emily will work with The Trust’s donors based in Westchester to help them maximize their charitable impact in their local communities and for the causes they care about.
“Our Westchester team has an impressive history of connecting with local communities to support positive change across the county,” said Laura Rossi, The Trust’s vice president for Westchester. “We’re thrilled to have Emily step into this role. She brings incredible energy, passion, and valuable nonprofit and development experience to help us expand our partnerships and impact.”
Before joining The Trust, Emily spent the last decade at iDE (International Development Enterprises), an international nonprofit powering entrepreneurs to end poverty in 11 countries. At iDE, she led fund development efforts that contributed to significant growth for the organization and managed communications and marketing efforts during the organization’s rebranding. Prior to joining iDE, Emily worked in publicity and distribution for documentary films at the 2050 Group, representing films at the Sundance and Tribeca film festivals. Earlier in her career, Emily led communications at the Alliance for Quality Education, an education advocacy and policy organization in New York and previous grantee of The Trust.
“I look forward to working with The Trust’s exceptional community of donors in Westchester, who are as unique as the array of causes they champion,” said Karol. “Together with the Trust’s expert grantmaking staff, we can help our county continue to grow into a more just and equitable place to live, work, and play–today and for generations to come.”
Emily graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in photojournalism. She has been active in environmental causes and has a deep interest in regenerative agriculture and the
future of our food system.
