Collaborative Fund

GoVoteNYC

GoVoteNYC supports nonpartisan strategies to shift the decades-long downward trajectory of voter participation in New York City and strengthen democracy.

GoVoteNYC’s funders recognize that the city flourishes when all New Yorkers are engaged and participate in civic life and elections of municipal leadership. The funding group also believes local government is more representative and accountable when all voices are heard in our central democratic process—voting.

GoVoteNYC was organized in January 2021 to prepare New Yorkers for one of the city’s most consequential elections in a generation. Its goals are to:

·  increase voter participation & narrow participation gaps.

·  increase the capacity of grantees to educate, engage, and mobilize voters.

·  strengthen coordination among organizations that are building a more engaged citizenry.

·  foster a “voter-friendly” ecosystem where barriers to voting are minimized and election administration is competent and fair.

GoVoteNYC operates in a strictly nonpartisan manner and will provide funding only to organizations that are both exempt from tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the Code) and are a public charity as described in sections 509(a)(1), (2), or (3) of the Code.

GoVoteNYC operates through pooled funds and aligned giving, providing grants and technical assistance to nonprofit partners working on nonpartisan get-out-the-vote and other civic participation activities. It is an open resource to other donors and a platform for sharing resources, information, and lessons learned in the field.

GoVoteNYC is resourcing nonprofits who successfully get-out-the-vote in communities across the city. It is only through partnering with other donors that we can address entrenched barriers to voter participation and give consistent attention to the democratic practices in our backyard.
