Bio
Irfan leads The Trust’s competitive grantmaking teams across the New York City, Westchester, and Long Island offices. His earlier roles at The Trust included managing its health, behavioral health, biomedical research, human services, and social work grantmaking. Irfan co-chaired The Trust’s NYC COVID-19 Response and Impact Fund’s human services grants committee and developed The Trust's September 11th Fund’s $75 million emergency health and mental health response grantmaking program. Prior to The Trust, he served as Vice President for Client Services at Greater Boston Rehabilitation Services (now Viability) where he oversaw programs to help people with disabilities, chronic diseases, and other barriers to employment return to work. Irfan serves as Board Chair of Philanthropy New York; is an Executive Committee member of the Directors of Grantmakers in Health Board; is an elected Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine; and a governance committee member of the Substance Use Funders Collaborative. Irfan earned a master’s in public administration from New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University.
Previous volunteer leadership roles include serving as a Mayoral appointment to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Community Service Board; co-chair of the American Public Health Association's Public Health Funder Network; a Board member of the Disability Funders Network (including Board Chair); a Board member of BoardStrong; and co-chair of the United States Student Selection Committee for the United World Colleges.
