NEW YORK, NY (January 14, 2025) – The New York Community Trust, New York’s largest community foundation, recently announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors.
“We pride ourselves on our engaged and knowledgeable board members, who really understand the needs of local communities and provide invaluable guidance to our team,” said Amy Freitag, The Trust’s President. “Our newest members are no exception—they bring a depth of experience that will serve The Trust as we enter our second century of creating a more thriving and equitable New York.”
Mariana Campero is a senior associate (non-resident) at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and co-hosts the CSIS Mexico Matters and It’s More Than Grit podcasts. She is the former CEO of the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations and a former vice president of Zemi Communications, a New-York-based strategic consultancy that helps Latin American governments and businesses target their communications needs toward audiences in the United States.
Mariana also is a member of the Museo del Barrio Acquisitions Committee and the Metropolitan Americas Council. Mariana holds a business degree from ITAM, the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, and an M.A. from Columbia University in New York.
Steve Koch is the former deputy mayor of Chicago and former Credit Suisse co-head of mergers and acquisitions. Currently, Steve serves on the boards of the Chicago Community Trust, Joyce Foundation, Southland Economic Development Authority, mHUB, Greater Chicago Food Depository, Navy Pier Inc., Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Commercial Club of Chicago, Naturally Chicago, and James Beard Foundation, and on the visiting committee of the University of Chicago Law School.
Steve is a managing partner of the mHUb Product Impact Fund and a director of Cohesion IB, as well as a member of SLoFIG and the Hyde Park Angels. Steve received his B.A. from Hampshire College, his M.B.A from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
Michael A. Marquez will assume the role of president of Bessemer Trust in April 2025. In his current role as Bessemer’s chief client officer and chief operating officer he leads strategic initiatives to enhance client experience, deepen engagement, and reinforce the firm’s culture of advice and service. Prior to joining Bessemer, Michael was managing director at J.P. Morgan, advising clients of its private and investment banks. He began his career at PwC.
He is the immediate past chair of the Young Presidents’ Organization’s NYC chapter and serves on the board of the New York Youth Symphony. He also is the former chair of The Miami Foundation’s board and the Pérez Art Museum Miami’s Investment Advisory Committee. Michael earned an M.B.A. with honors from Columbia Business School and a B.S. in accounting from Boston College.
