The Trust is investing in a more climate-resilient region and creating more green space for all New Yorkers. Consider giving to some of our nonprofit partners, who are making our infrastructure more sustainable and protecting our air, water, and green spaces.

Stewarding Our Waters

City Island Oyster Reef is a community-led, grassroots nonprofit working to restore oyster populations around City Island. It rebuilds oyster reefs, supports biodiversity, improves water quality, and protects our coastline through hands-on restoration, research, and education.

Governors Island Foundation ensures that the Island remains a vibrant resource and open space for all New Yorkers through arts and cultural experiences, programs that generate solutions to the climate crisis, and broader initiatives.

Riverkeeper protects the Hudson River and its tributaries by establishing globally recognized standards for waterway and watershed protection, conducting scientific research, and advocating for the enforcement of environmental laws.

Cultivating Green Space

Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy restores and maintains more than 10,000 acres of public parklands throughout Jamaica Bay and the Rockaway peninsula. The nonprofit also increases recreational and educational opportunities and fosters community stewardship and volunteerism.

New York Restoration Project works with residents in communities across the five boroughs to renovate gardens, restore parks, plant trees, promote urban agriculture, and transform the city’s landscape. It owns and operates more than 50 community gardens, stewards over 80 acres of parkland, and builds almost two dozen new gardens every year.

LONG ISLAND: ReWild Long Island increases biodiversity and improves climate resiliency by educating local residents about sustainable landscaping practices, such as using native plants and trees.

Building a Climate-Smart Metropolis

Urban Green Council’s mission is to decarbonize buildings for a sustainable future in New York City and beyond through research, policy development, and advocacy.

WESTCHESTER: Center for Economic and Environmental Partnership brings together businesses, environmentalists, and community members to collaborate and advance sound environmental business policies in New York State.

This list is not exhaustive. There are many incredible nonprofits helping make our region a better place for all; we seek to highlight a few that may not already be on your radar.
