Celebrating Latinx Arts, Advocacy, and Communities

The celebration of Latinx histories, cultures, and contributions continues year-round. Latinx New Yorkers are one of the city’s largest communities, representing almost a quarter of our population and driving dynamic growth and progress. Consider giving to these groups to invest in the continued sharing of Latinx stories and culture, support vibrant neighborhoods, and help leaders flourish.

Arts and Culture

Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Educational Center is a Puerto Rican and Latinx arts institution that amplifies diverse voices, fosters intergenerational exchange, and supports the creation of contemporary, multidisciplinary work. It provides affordable studio space and performance venues to artists, small arts organizations, and independent producers.

Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater is a multigenerational performing ensemble and multidisciplinary arts presenter based in the Bronx and Manhattan, and as of 2025, a member of New York City’s distinguished Cultural Institutions Group. It champions Puerto Rican and Latinx cultural legacies through the creation and performance of original plays and musicals, artistic partnerships, and community engagement.

Repertorio Español is a Spanish-language theater founded in 1968 that introduces Latin American, Spanish, and Hispanic American theater to audiences in New York City. Each year, it presents 200 performances, including classic and contemporary Spanish drama, contemporary works chronicling the experiences of second- and third-generation Latinx people, and adaptations of popular Latin American novels.

Health & Social Services

Voces Latinas works to reduce the rate of HIV transmission and violence among immigrants by empowering, educating, and providing leadership training to Spanish-speaking immigrant women. The group offers culturally sensitive HIV prevention and sexual health services, healthcare enrollment and navigation services, safety planning, and support groups for survivors of domestic violence.

LONG ISLAND: Latina Sisters Support was created in 2017 to increase information about and awareness of cancer within the Hispanic community and to better support cancer patients and their families during treatment. The nonprofit arranges mammograms for women who are uninsured, provides culturally and linguistically competent health education and other support services, such as financial assistance, transportation, and hot meals.

WESTCHESTER: El Centro Hispano provides services for Latino immigrants in the mid-Westchester area, including referrals for housing, healthcare, and employment. The nonprofit also provides translation services, counseling and advocacy, English language classes, and scholarships for high school students.

Civic Engagement

El Puente de Williamsburg offers a variety of youth programming related to the arts, health and wellness, social activism, and environmental action. It operates six afterschool centers in Williamsburg and Bushwick, including three that are located in New York City Housing Authority developments, and partners with two public schools in North Brooklyn.

LatinoJustice PRLDEF uses impact litigation, education programs, and community engagement and advocacy to secure transformative, equitable, and accessible justice. The nonprofit focuses on six areas: economic justice, immigrant rights, voting rights, Puerto Rico, criminal justice, and leadership development.

This list is not exhaustive. There are many incredible nonprofits helping to make our region a better place for all; we seek to highlight a few that may not already be on your radar.
