Funding Details

Program goal

 To build and sustain strong communities and create economic opportunities for residents of low-income neighborhoods.

We support a mix of citywide and local community development activities as well as policy research and advocacy. We give priority to projects that promote community participation.

 

Grants are made to

  • Preserve affordable housing in low-income neighborhoods.
  • Promote strategies for job creation and linking low-income residents to jobs.
  • Develop new sources of capital and innovative community development tools.
  • Enhance the capacity of community development organizations to function effectively.
  • Monitor and document the effects of community and economic development policies on low-income communities.

to coordinate the use of heat sensors with community organizers and legal service providers helping low-income tenants.

to engage public housing residents in NYCHA policy.

to improve bus lane service in the outer boroughs.

Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City, Inc.

to make new loan options available to homeowners and homebuyers struggling with the lingering economic effects of the pandemic.

Neighborhood Housing Services of Queens CDC

to help homeowners and renters in Queens save for unexpected emergencies.

New Economy Project 

for services and advocacy to prevent predatory financial practices that exploit low-income New Yorkers.

Center for New York City Neighborhoods

to start an advocacy campaign for a statewide program that provides one-time financial assistance to homeowners.

New York Professional Advisors for Community Entrepreneurs

to support small, minority- and women-owned businesses in low-income communities and industries hardest hit by the pandemic.

NPower

to expand a free technology training program for disadvantaged young people.

Preserving City Neighborhoods Housing Development Fund Corporation

to preserve affordable housing and prevent tenant displacement in the wake of Signature Bank’s closure.

Citizens Housing and Planning Council of New York, Inc.

to support safe, affordable housing production through zoning and regulatory reform.
